BLESSING AND BLESSED

Blessing and blessed repeatedly relate to each other. To receive a blessing or blessings means that you have entered into the state of the blessed and that is a choice place to be in. To be blessed indicates that there is a knowing of the good and great gifts that God has and is bestowing in and upon life. The word bless simply signifies to experience some natural or spiritual good that enriches life in a bountiful and beautiful manner. The blessed state is where a person knows a constant enjoyment of blessing, the manifestation of God’s exceeding kindness and goodness. and such is an enviable position to be in.

It has to be recognized that God is the Blessed God and that every worthy blessing has its root and source in Him. He is called in the New Testament as ‘the Blessed Father’ and ‘the Father of mercies’ – i.e. the origin of all that is kind and good. Christ taught that His Father was the One that gave good gifts (blessings) to His children – Luke 11: 11-13. It has ever been His great desire and design to do good to His creatures. This is seen at the outset – Genesis 1: 27 and is confirmed in the rest of the Bible.

Man must enter into the great state of divine blessedness and this can only be so in and through Jesus Christ. He is to be viewed as the blessed gift to all mankind and when He is received and allowed to operate then life becomes truly and fully blessed. Ephesians 1: 3 reveals that the Christian believer has been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Him so there is no lack at all in any area of life as the chapter reveals.

Besides being forgiven, there is the blessing of being adopted into God’s Family, of receiving the Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of much more. Riches are the lot of those who belong to Christ which are veritable advantages that furnish the life for good. God the Father has ordained that Christ’s Church should be immeasurably blessed and all within her compass ought to enter into this inheritance.

The Greek word for ‘blessed’ is ‘makarios’. Cyprus is called the blessed isle because it possesses all that is essential for her development, sustenance and happiness. She is totally resourced. Heaven is the believer’s ultimate makarios where eternal blessings and blessedness is to be known.

God desires to furnish the believer’s life and experience with every token of His goodness and such should be in the position of believing Him to bring this to pass. Abraham received a promise at the outset of his call and believed that God was not only capable of doing it but would actually bring such to pass and he was not to be disappointed – Genesis 12: 1-3. God has not run out of blessings nor has ceased to be the Blessed One. He is big enough to make sure that all His children will know thi choice state.

“There cannot be a more glorious object in creation than a human being replete with benevolence, meditating in what manner he may render himself most acceptable to the Creator by doing good to his creatures.” Fielding

May I not only be the recipient of your blessings and in a blessed state, help me express divine benevolence to all at all times.

Facts to be Faced

OBESITY: Almost a quarter of 11-15 year olds are obese – so fat it threatens their health. In the early 1980s it was under 5 percent.

ALCOHOL AND DRUGS: binge drinking has risen dramatically, particularly by girls. In 1992, 15 year-old girls who drank alcohol consumed an average of six units a week, compared to nine for boys. Now it is 12 units a week for girls and 14 for boys. Four in ten 16 year-olds admit taking illegal drugs. The number of under 18s treated for smoking skunk – a potent strain of cannabis – has risen to nearly 9, 600, a tenfold increase on a decade ago.

TEEN BIRTHS: teenage births rates in England and Wales are the highest in Western Europe. In 2005 the number of pregnancies among under – 18s was almost 40,000. In 1995 it was 35,400.

SEXUAL INFECTIONS: sexual infections have been rising for several years, with almost 800.000 recorded in2005. They had stabilised or even fallen in the early 1980s and early 1990s.

MENTAL HEALTH: Adolescence is the only age range in which suicides are rising. Around one in five mentally ill people who commit suicide is under 25.

Maximise Your Life with Paul Benger – Part TwoThe second extract from Paul Benger’s book ‘Twelve’ which was written to highlight key principles which will help you on your journey as a Christian. You will be challenged to rethink why you think what you think! Confused?!
“QUE SERA, SERA” – Doris Day, written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans for Alfred Hitchcock’s1956 re-make of his 1934 film “The Man Who Knew Too Much” starring Doris Day and James Stewart.

“Que sera, sera, Whatever will be, will be; The future’s not ours to see. Que sera, sera, What will be, will be.”

I wonder how much of our thinking is influenced by the popular music of the day. Look at some of today’s most popular offerings: “Don’t let me get me I’m my own worst enemy, It’s bad when you annoy yourself so irritating, Don’t wanna be my friend no more I wanna be somebody else I wanna be somebody else, yeah”  “I’m just a teenage dirtbag baby”  “I’m disgusting and obscene.” These lyrics from three of the most popular songs in recent times just go to show that popular culture does not have an angle on truth and neither did Doris Day in 1956.

Doris’ song says, “The future’s not ours to see.” The truth is we must see the future that God wants for us if we are going to experience it. ‘Que sera’ advocates living without a clear vision of what you want and allows you to react to what you experience. God, on the other hand, seems to want to give us a vision of what He wants for our lives so that we can pursue it regardless of what we experience. We are people who are pregnant with destiny. Unfortunately, we have disconnected God so far from the everyday happenings of life that we cannot see how our lives could be living out a Divine plan. The truth is however, we are a part of God’s plan for the planet and whatever our vocation, our lives will count for the Kingdom of God.

Get a clear vision of what you want – “And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king and the mighty men of valour.”” Joshua 6:2. God wants us to see what He sees. For Joshua this was not going to be easy. The thought that walking around Jericho a few times over several days and then shouting as loudly as you possibly could would literally bring the walls down is quite absurd. However, that is what God saw and that is what He wanted Joshua to see. God is never without a plan, He is not caught short by unforeseen circumstances because He sees them in advance. The things that God has for our lives are the things that HE sees. Vision is the ability to see as God sees. The truth is that God does not see our lives in the same way as we do.

Many of us can have a clear vision of what we don’t want. “I don’t like my job, my house, my husband, my wife,” etc. and we can live in a constant state of dullness or depression. Being dissatisfied with our current reality is not enough to change it. If you are frustrated with your current circumstances you are normal! Our current reality is just a step along the way as we are progressing to where God intends us to be. We can, with the help of God and the circumstances around us, adjusting our character, our friends, our finances and whatever else in order to move towards our destiny.

Living life through a lens –  One day I was reading Psalm 13 which was written by King David. In the first four verses David is looking at his life from the perspective of how it feels to him. “How long will you forget me Lord? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?” Get the picture?! David is looking at his life through a narrow lens. This lens only allows him to see what is immediately obvious. His view is heavily influenced by the way he feels and at this moment he doesn’t feel too good. The promises that God has given him regarding being King are not in view as he runs away from Saul, the present King, who is trying to take his life. His stomach feels constantly knotted and he is living with the tension of faith in God alongside a present fear. However, in verse five he changes the lens through which he is looking. He finds a lens which he can not only see the immediate situation but also sees God, and the moment he has a view of God in his circumstances he can only see one outcome, victory. The house of God should always be a place that brings God into view. As we look at our lives our lens must be big enough and wide enough to see God and therefore to see as God sees. Here are three things that David saw when he switched lenses.

1. Unfailing Love: The house of God is the place where we will continually be made aware of the unfailing love of God. Unfailing love is continual and constant, God’s house is always full of this kind of love.

2. Salvation: David says, “I will rejoice because you have rescued me.” David now has a view that includes God and he can only see one outcome, salvation. In the words of Delirious, “God will save the day, and all will say, ‘My Glorious.'”

3. The Goodness of God: To David the thought that God would be mean to him never entered his head. He is committed to the view that God is good and has good things for him. You and I should be committed to that view as well. God does good because he is good.
If your lens has left you afraid, anxious and stressed then allow yourself to begin seeing your situation with God involved and you will only see one outcome: “My Glorious.”

We need 20:20 Vision. Naturally 20:20 vision is the ability to see things perfectly well at a distance of twenty feet. Spiritual 20:20 vision is the ability to have hyperopia (long-sightedness) and myopia (short-sightedness) at the same time. That is to see the future but also be able to deal with the present situation. Isaiah 46:10 says, “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come.” God has perfect vision, He sees the end from the beginning but He is also a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). God has a pre-planned and pre-designed future for us and today He works in us to enable us to find the path that will lead us into our destiny. With God’s help you can see the future even though the present is tough and with His help you can deal with the present even though you are pressing forward into all you see. The best is yet to come! Never lose sight of your God-given vision or neglect the present.

Put on your Night Vision goggles. I recently discovered that I suffer from a condition called “night blindness.” Whilst my vision is perfectly good during daylight hours, at night, especially in total darkness, I begin to struggle. For years I wondered why my wife could find her way around our home in complete darkness and I would be bumping into things that I knew were there but just couldn’t see. When I am trying to navigate around our home in the darkness I have to use my inner compass. That is, the inner vision I have of the layout within our house. The vision that God has given you and me for our lives is like that inner compass. It is that vision that will direct us and keep us on course through the “night seasons” of life. “I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.” Psalm 16:7 (NKJV). From time to time we will all experience these seasons when our lives face confusion, adversity and maybe apparent contradiction. It is at these times that we will be guided by the vision within our hearts.

Sing? I don’t feel like singing! Isaiah 54:1-3 “Sing, O childless woman! Break forth into loud and joyful song, O Jerusalem, even though you never gave birth to a child. For the woman who could bear no children now  has more than all the other women, says the Lord.” Here is another classic example of God not seeing our lives the way that we see them and of His wanting us to react, not to the things we see, but to what He sees. This woman, Jerusalem, is barren. She knows that she should be fruitful but she isn’t. She’s tried everything to conceive but nothing has worked. Her whole life is spent trying to unhinge herself from the reproach of barrenness but so far she has failed. Her plight understandably leaves her thoroughly miserable and desperate. The last thing on her mind is a good old sing song and her emotional strength is so low that a song of victory is completely out of the question. God, however, believes she should be singing and the reason for this is that He does not see her the way she sees herself. She can only see barren, miserable and desperate, but God sees fruitful and bursting at the seams. God’s view of your life and ministry could well be completely different to the way you see it today and here is the stinger: God wants you to live according to what He sees and not what you see! God has the audacity to expect you and I to respond in faith to what He can see. The barren woman was to get ready. She had to enlarge the place of her tent and prepare to be bursting at the seams. You too need to live like this. We recently relocated our church to Town Centre premises. We did this not out of need but out of faith. We’re getting ready to be bursting at the seams.

I believe that more than any other place on earth God wants his house to be filled with faith, hope, love and life – a reflection of what He sees, not an expression of the dullness and dryness created by the world. In God’s house barren lives will become fruitful again. Broken hearts will be mended, ruined dreams will be resurrected, given life and mistakes will be recovered from.

Sing when you’re winning, you only sing when you’re winning. Perhaps like me you’ve sang this refrain to the opposing team’s fans as your team comfortably take control of the game and the supporters of the opposition become quiet. It’s time, right now, for the church to sing! Not because everywhere she’s doing great but because wherever she is, she has a great future. The time to sing is not just when we’re winning but when it looks like we’re losing as well because we know that come full-time the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. This is not only true of the church but also our lives. God wants to plug us into the destiny He has prepared for us. So come on church, see what He sees and sing at the top of your voice!

REMEMBER

* Doris Day was wrong! The future is ours to see
* Get a clear vision of what you want not just what you don’t want
* Make sure you always view life through a lens that sees God
* Your vision will be your guide in the night season
* Sing

Christians discriminated against in UK

One in four Christians said they thought they suffered discrimination in the workplace from colleagues

One in three Christians claim to have suffered discrimination because of their religious views, according to a new poll. The survey by the BBC shows unprecedented disquiet among church-going Britons amid claims they increasingly face prejudice in the media, the workplace and even in their own communities.

It follows a series of high-profile rows over unfair treatment towards Christians, including the case of the British Airways worker who was banned from wearing a crucifix, while Muslim employees were allowed to wear headscarfs.

A third of those polled by the BBC’s religious programme Heaven And Earth, claim Christians experience discrimination in the way the media portrays them.

One in four said they thought they suffered discrimination in the workplace from colleagues. And more than one in five said they thought Christians faced discrimination in their local communities. It reflects a growing unease that Labour multiculturalism has led to ethnic minority faiths such as Islam and Hinduism being given special treatment.
Meanwhile, there is a fear that the historic importance of Christianity in British life has been pushed to the sidelines.

The BBC has itself been accused of blasphemy because of its decision to screen the controversial show Jerry Springer – The Opera, despite its profane portrayal of God and heaven.

Last Sunday’s Heaven And Earth programme, presented by Gloria Hunniford, focused on an example of Government prejudice against a Christian-run drug treatment centre.
Yeldall Manor in Berkshire offers successful residential treatment for young men addicted to drugs or alcohol. The centre is run by evangelical Christians and the regime includes Bible study sessions and grace before meals. However, their doors are open to addicts of all backgrounds. William Hague praised its work when he was Tory leader.

But director Ken Wiltshire reveals how John Prescott’s Office of the Deputy Prime Minister tried to cut their funding because they failed to meet Labour’s ‘equal opportunities’ criteria. He said: “We had been doing a good job helping former addicts move back into the community. So when we went for our routine review with officials we thought we would have no problems. “But they kept asking us questions about why our staff were exclusively Christian and why there had to be a Christian component to our regime. “There is no doubt there was prejudice against us because we are Christians. They think we are a bit odd.”

Yeldall Manor kept its funding but only after a vigorous local campaign.

Recently, Church leaders launched an outspoken campaign against new Labour legislation that will force Christian adoption agencies to offer children to prospective parents who are homosexual.

Tory MP and prominent Roman Catholic Ann Widdecombe said: “We should stand together and fight this discrimination. Christians are being marginalised, yet it is the established religion of this country.” The Rev Malcolm Duncan, of Christian campaigning group Faithworks, added: “The Christian church is suffering more than all other faiths in the UK. There is an aggressive secularist agenda that says it’s OK to support any group ending in “ism” but not OK to support anything connected to Christianity.”

The greatest treasure

Text to Learn: ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life’ – John 3:16

In Western Australia la merchant man arrived who was an expert in pearls. He could tell at a glance the true nature and worth of a pearl. Throughout the years he had learned to know the value of such attractive commodities. He had come with a mission to seek for treasure in the matter of pearls.

One day he heard of an old gentleman who owned a beautiful pearl which was considered priceless.  With great expectancy he approached the little village by the sea shore and enquired at the local post office about the person with this choice factor. He was given his address.

Up the winding hill. Opened the gate at the entrance to the long winding path that led to a rose covered door of the prettiest little cottage he thought bhe had ever seen. It seemed an eternity after he had knocked that he heard any movement in the cottage and then slowly, the door opened and a very old and care-worn man peered out.

‘I understand, sir, that you have a very wonderful Pearl and I wondered if I may see it, you see I am a great lover of pearls and have some knowledge as an expert.’

The old man didn’t reply but leaving the door slightly ajar returned to the kitche. After a long time, he re-appeared with a chamois, laced bag. Very, very carefully he began to untie the bag that contained the Miracle Pearl.

The merchant man gasped…..never had he seen such a magnificent pearl. He had travelled in the Persian Gulf, Ceylon, many of the Islands of the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico. He had also seen the famous 40 grain pearl, said to be the finest the world had seen. And he also had a glimpse of the world’s largest pearl, ‘the Bereford-Hope Pearl’ which weighed over 1,8000 grains, which was six times as much as the oyster that produced it…but  …but   THIS PEARL……WAS BREATH-TAKING!!!!

The merchant was very, very rich, and, of course, he wanted to purchase the pearl. He had his cheque book with him and told the old man he was prepared to pay a BIG PRICE for so wonderful a pearl. The old man smiled in a rather sad sort of way. NO.NO.NO.NO. He would never part with it.

But the merchant was not to be put off and tried every bit of sales patter he had ever learned on the old man. But it was all in vain. Then he was taken inside the cottage and learned the story behind that WONDERFUL PEARL. As far as he was concerned no money, jewels, property etc would be enough for this one pearl. The old gentleman said: ‘It’s too costly. My son, my only son gave his life in diving for it and so it has a value beyond anything.’

‘Every day’ said the old man, ‘my boy would come out with me in the boat and dive for pearls in the oyster bed. He had a wonderful body that was sun-tanned, slim and muscular and a great ability to stay under the water for a very long time. his lungs were terrific. Every day, he would tell me that he was going to find the greatest pearl in the world but usually he only found enough to keep the two of us alive. One fine morning we set out early, it was a clear sky and beautiful day. He stood at the end of my boat and told me today was to be THE DAY. He filled his lungs with fresh air and dived. I followed him as he swam with powerful strokes deeper and deeper to the Oyster bed, but then he as out of sight. I waited, waited, waited, but my boy didn’t come back. In my panic I began to shout at the waters to my boy. LAD COME BACK…LAD COME BACK …LAD COME BACK…but he didn’t come. But then a few yards away from the boat I saw a shadowy form and rowed over quickly….yes, it was my boy, but very exhausted. Actually he lapsed into unconsciousness as I dragged him into the boat .I worked hard trying to revive him…BUT ITB WAS TOO LATE…MY BOY HAD DIED…I was grief-stricken and began to row for the shore and tenderly lifted his dead body. I noticed his right hand tightly clasped. Slowly I prised open his fingers….AND THERE IT WAS…THE LOVELY PEARL YOU SEE TOADAY. IT WAS PURCHASED WITH THE LIFE OF MY ONLY SON….AND SO YOU SEE SIR, I COULD NEVER PART WITH MY PEARL. NEVER WILL THERE BE SUCH A COSTLY PEARL!!!!!’

The man immediately sensed and understood how he felt over this precious item. Selling that pearl would feel like he was selling his son who he had admired so much and was so it was too much for him to do. The sacrifice he had made in obtaining the pearl was all bound up in it and so it was put it beyond price. All the riches of the world piled as high as a mountain, could not purchase the prize.

This reminds us of Jesus who is regarded as the Pearl of Greatest Price. In thinking of Him, one considers Him to be the most wonderful person that ever lived and possessed the most attractive aspects of character. In fact He was sinless and faultless and manifested a beauty indescribable. His worth cannot be estimated.

His Father gave Him to die for us so eventually each one of us could own Him who is the Pearl of Greatest price. It is possible for all to obtain Him my believing Him and receiving Him into our hearts. Then one can be in possession of the greatest treasure in this life.

Of course, when Jesus is our hearts and lives there is one that desires to steal this treasure. His name is Satan. He will try every measure possible to rob and take from us this wonderful gift that God our Father has given. Everyone must be aware of this and not be enticed and realize that Jesus is too valuable to let go of for anyone or anything.

Learn to appreciate this divine treasure and hold tight to it all costs. Nothing in this world can be compared to Jesus Christ therefore it is essential keep a firm grip on Him. He is not for sale.

Satan will offer fame and fortune and many other things but they are a poor substitute and alternative to having Jesus. All these lose their attractiveness and wonder, but Jesus, never!

A MARVELLOUS INTERVENTION

I recall this incident that happened many years ago when I was minister of a church in Denton, Manchester.

We decided that we would take our young people away for a week’s holiday to …. on the South Coast. All looked forward to journeying together in our church bus and of spending so much time in fun and fellowship.

It was decided that we would travel all through the night on the Friday arriving at our destination early Saturday thus giving us extra time at the lovely resort.

I had in my possession a blue Ford Cortina car which I highly valued. Friday was spent in getting it all cleaned up and mechanically attended to with regard to tyres, oil, spark plugs so all was in good working order. One knew it was important to see that everything possible was done so as to avoid any problems.

We hopefully set off full of jubilation at the prospect of such a good holiday. As we were travelling through Manchester on our way to the motor way, however, the alarm bells began to sound in my being. The cause of this sudden disturbance was the appearance of a red light on the dashboard that heralded a real problem. The light was an indication that my battery was no longer charging and that the dynamo required some new brushes. What was I to do at such a late hour?

Somehow I sensed we must press on and get as far ahead as possible and see what happened then. Thankfully the battery was fully charged but there was no way that we would see the night through with the lights. We proceeded on the motor way knowing that we had to cross over to another road. The lights got dimmer and dimmer to almost the point of extinction when we came off the motor way.

As we came off I noticed a petrol garage with its overhead lights on but it was closed. I lifted my bonnet and wondered what to do. We had prayed so we required divine help in this extreme emergency. Suddenly a land rover came at the rear of my vehicle and I went to the driver and asked him if it was possible to get my dynamo attended to in the area. He directed me to go down the road for about 150 yards where I would see a right hand fork in the road, if I would take it and follow it round then I would come to a factory that was open all night and he felt certain they could deal with the matter. He immediately drove off after giving me the information.

Our church bus had passed us unaware of the difficulty so I dropped my wife off at the fork in the road because I knew they would come back to seek us. Arriving at the factory they were most obliging and dealt with my immediate need. The young folks came back and joined me and had a little break and saw to their toilet demands and within a half-hour we were safely on our way.

In thinking of that situation over the years I often wondered whether it was an angel that was sent in the land rover to assist in guidance. Whoever he was, was certainly the apt divine messenger at the right moment. I came to realize that the Lord was interested in the mechanics of my car. To Him be the praise.

March 27th     GOD WILLS TO USE YOU – Exodus 3: 10 -12; Romans 12

Moses never thought at this particular point in his life that the Lord had any interest in Him whatsoever, let alone being used of him at this late stage in his existence. The past forty years had been rather drab and dull looking after a flock of sheep away from all society. Here he is being confronted with the supreme task of bringing God’s people out of Egypt and into a land of untold promise. It seemed and looked ridiculous but it wasn’t. God had turned up to get hold of His man that would become an instrument in his hands to do a major work.

His real usefulness was about to begin at a time when he must have thought his life and work was all over. He was to lift him out of non-entity and give His authority and backing to stand before Pharoah and perform the role of deliverer of God’s people. Assurance was give of the Lord’s presence – v12 “Certainly I will be with you.” This was to make the difference and bring about the deliverance. A new sense was to possess him and he was to act out of great conviction such he had never known before.

We are to be encouraged by this event and incident. God has been planning and working for the moment when He can visit you in order to inform that He has a job none but you can do. At this hour He is summoning you to rise to join with Him in a partnership so that a great work can be performed through you. The good thing is, ‘He will be with you as He was with Moses.’ This is to be moment of a new start that is to open out a meaningful future.

March 28th     HE IS YOUR GOD, NOW – Exodus 3: 13-22

There was little doubt that Moses believed in the God of his fathers. He knew He was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the personal sense. He would be familiar with the biographies of their lives and of God’s intimate dealings with them.  What had occurred to them impacted him and caused him to embrace the promises given to them.  Wonderful hopes had been stirred in his being because of such. But then God was to reveal Himself and His Name to him and give a personal understanding of His greatness. He was not to be left in the dark or guessing who it was engaging him for a supreme task.

It is always a great moment when God suddenly begins to personally reveal and identify Himself to and with a person. The truth that was to hit him that day and for the rest of his life was that his fathers’ God was to be his God and that this God was and always is ‘the God of the Now.’ This was to change His whole concept of life and future experience. He was to come to know the reality that God would always be around to deal with everything. It did not matter what was to be faced. He was to discover through relationship that he could handle everything with and through God.

You need to know that God would seek to break in upon your life as God and as the ‘I AM that I Am.’ He is now in your life and affairs and desires to prove Himself in so many remarkable ways. It is time for you to believe it and to enter into this vibrant accord with Him that will produce so much good not only for you, but others through you. Remember at all times, God is never outdated but always keeps up to date with His servants and people. You, too, can rely upon to reveal Himself as the One who is always on the scene to work in your life.

March 29th     WHAT IS IN YOUR HAND?  Exodus 4

It was a question that was first put to Moses that was to have a major contribution to the success of his spiritual career in God. His simple reply was: “A rod.” It had been a faithful companion with him over many years as he had attended to the needs of his flock. He could use it to walk with or to defend the sheep with. No doubt it was an item that had always been with him and so became inseparable.

Little did he realize what this rod would become through God in his new vocation? It was going to be part of his equipment as he became engaged in this new enterprise with Jehovah. In no way was it to be left behind as he moved out on this divine commission. As he was commanded to throw it on the ground it became a writhing, wriggling snake from which he hurried away terrified. The Lord encourages him to take it by the tail and it is back into a rod. This was now going to be a symbol of his divine authority in the future as he cared for God’s sheep, Israel.

It is essential to know what the Lord has placed in your hands to be employed sacredly for Him. Be assured, as He has called you to work for Him, so He has given the necessary power to achieve His designs. Consider that one of the things is the right to use the Name of Jesus. The authority of heaven is behind and backs it and you can use it with powerful results when called by God to employ it.

March 30th     WHO IS THE LORD? – Exodus 5

Here is another question – v2. It comes from the pagan monarch of Egypt, Pharoah. He is confronted by two men that represented the Lord and speak on His behalf: “Thus saith the Lord . .”  -v1 , and his reply was, “Who is the Lord?” As far as he was concerned the Lord was a non-entity and not a real issue at that time. He was far from being impressed by these men and who they stood for. There was no way, at that moment; he was going to recognize either. He was dismissive of the Sovereign Lord and believed he would easily cope with anything that would come up in the immediate future. At that juncture he was in a state of assumption, and because of the seeming strength of his position, felt he could handle anyone and anything. He was yet to make a great discovery!

His re-action to their seeming impertinence was to make things more difficult for God’s servants and people. He issued the directive to make things much harder for Israel and the people were in a worse state. Pharoah felt he was the lord and that he would dictate the situation. The two men were disappointed at this and made their complaint to the Lord – vv22, 23. They were in negativity but they ought not to have been because the Lord indicated earlier that this would be the pagan monarch’s reaction – Exodus 3: 19 “And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.” He was going to prove difficult!

When the Lord calls to an impossible task there will be major problems to be encountered and overcome. It is not all plain sailing and He would have you aware of it from the start. The obstacles and oppositions will appear in the way but He is Lord and will prove more than adequate to deal with them. Learn to rest in the knowledge that He will answer them in His way and on time. He has already foreseen every difficulty and in His wisdom has planned to deal with them in an omnipotent manner so that you may rejoice in His grace and power.

March 31st    NOW YOU WILL SEE WHAT I WILL DO! – Exodus 6

Into the hopeless conditions the Lord moves in to prove and show to His people and servants in particular what He is capable of accomplishing. He permits this extreme situation to arise to make obvious that it presents no problem to Him. In this awful environment He is able to turn and change it through His presence, wisdom and power. He confirms to His appointed messengers what he intends to do – vv1-8, and He concludes by stating, “I am the Lord.” This covenant people were to discover that He was present to demonstrate His Godhead.

Moses had to get rid of his fear and become a man of faith and so be ready to go back into the presence of this godless king. The Lord was nerving and strengthening him so that he would become a very strong leader for the rest of the schedule that was before him. He was to move out of his own weakness and inferiority to become a mighty man of God. Thankfully he was prepared to receive the directives of God and moved on as a man of faith, courage and achievement. It was essential that he become what the Lord wanted him to become so that he would see what God would do.

Nothing in the past is to be lost because God has quietly worked in the background in that time phase to make ready for what He wills to do. Do not write off that period as of being no worth or consequence. It has all been part of the divine schedule and ordering to get you primed up for this hour. The timing of God has brought you to your NOW. You are to see what He is about to do, but remember, you have a role to fulfil. You have to face up to yourself and allow God to fill you with divine assurance and boldness and go on to succeed in achieving great things within His programme.

April 1st      THE BEGINNING OF MIRACLES – Exodus 7; John 2: 1-11

It was now time to start and wage war with the enemy that was keeping them captive. God chose the ways and means by which the deliverance should come. It was to be by the route of the miraculous. In this fresh encounter, Moses was informed beforehand as to what to expect from this heathen monarch – v9 “Shew me a miracle.” The rod was to be thrown down in his presence and it would take on a living form that of a serpent. It would be very challenging stuff!

The wicked king felt that his magicians and sorcerers were up to the same ability and he called them to perform this feat. It must have been quite a scene. Pharaoh would have been rather pleased with their act until he saw Aaron’s rod swallow up their rods. The obvious interpretation is that the Lord was manifesting His authority and the king didn’t like what he saw and resisted it. God’s servants became emboldened by this and began to move into the driving seat.

The first miracle that Christ enacted expressed the start of an onslaught against evil and there was much more to follow – John 2. The same could be said of the infant Christian Church. It can be rightly argued that there is a real need for the miraculous today so that we may make great advancement over the forces of evil. Pray this to be so in your life and for the local witness through your fellowship. The Lord would seek to initiate something of a divine order but requires you to cooperate with Him in creating the miraculous.

April 2nd     UNDER DIVINE PROTECTION – Exodus 8

The moment arrived when the Lord had to teach Pharaoh and His own people a lesson. God was able to place a division between the Egyptians and the Israelites and to let them both know that He was Sovereign Lord. It states in v23 “And I will put a division between my people and thy people: tomorrow shall this sign be.” In the immediate programme He would undoubtedly prove that He was judging one and protecting the other and both needed to get the message. It was not to be a one off incident – 9: 4-7, 26; 10: 23 etc. A programme was to commence that would not end until total deliverance had been accomplished.

The encouraging fact is that the Lord was able to safeguard the well-being of both persons and property of those that belonged to Him in sacred covenant. It became an evident revelation that He was in control and that He could provide complete security at all times from every opposing force of evil. All that the Israelites had to do was to believe and rest in the goodness of God knowing that He was outworking His plan for their release and ultimate blessedness. They were under the shadow of His wing and no evil could come near them.

It is essential to know that we are a people that are living under His new covenant and that He is committed to protecting us in the midst of life. Christ came as the Good, Chief and Great Shepherd in order to care, tend and protect each of His sheep that He has purchased to Himself. Live content and assured under His watchful eye and He will make evident to you that He can keep and sustain you through every invading evil foe and force. You are His and this makes a difference!

ADAPTER

How useful such can be in any area especially in this technological age! There are so many up-to-date gadgets that it is difficult to keep abreast with their production and usefulness.

My wife recently purchased a digital camera for my use and what an advantage to be able to carry this small, composite piece of equipment with me on my travels. It is so light and easy to handle and serves my needs quite well. To be able to take photographs and even to video scenes to a degree is quite something. In the case of the latter, I didn’t know I could do such until my youngest son showed me this asset that was at my disposal. It is exciting to be learning something different even in later life.

It is also an advantage to have a memory card attached to the camera so that one can stock easily and readily such a large number of photographs that can be then transferred to the computer for further safe-keeping and viewing. What a great thing that one can get a greater viewing by this means!

I was then informed that one could obtain an adapter that could be placed in one of the ports on the computer that would be able to take a number of cards used in other cameras so that one could transfer from other people’s cameras images and scenes that had been taken. It was a delight to purchase one and introduce it to my computer and to use my own and friend’s card which was different and to load all on to my computer. That small piece of equipment is going to make a difference to the storing of a lot of pictures that will become very memorable in the future.

The adapter is an illustration is what Christians should be in this world. They should be people who are so useful that in and through them others around them should be able to communicate readily with Christ. They are to be a simple means by which from the condition of their own situations of life they can be passed over to Christ in and through whom registration is made. An adapter is a piece of equipment, a go- between, with regard to the camera and computer. Every Christian believer should become an acceptable, easy and powerful mediator between man and God.

Coming home from work, a woman stopped off at the corner deli to buy a chicken for supper. The butcher reached into his barrel & pulled out the last chicken he had. He put in on the scales & told her its weight. She said that she really wanted a chicken a bit heavier. Without a word the butcher put the chicken back into the barrel & pretended to find another one. He pulled the same chicken back out & declared that this chicken was a little heavier. The woman considered what to do & said, “Ok I’ll take them both!”  Which just goes to show that honesty is still the best policy.-Anon

THE ANSWERING LORD    1 KINGS 18

HUMAN REQUIREMENT: Because of the extreme situations that man finds himself in at times there is the demand for help and intervention of an immense kind.  He is reduced to circumstances where he cannot deal with the issue himself neither can others around bring the required solution. He is both powerless and helpless before the thing. Thankfully there is someone called the Lord who is the Lord   that can be called upon to render His loving and mighty assistance. DIVINE RESPONSE: There is the promise given through Jeremiah on this line: “Call unto Me, and I will answer you, and shew you great and mighty things which you know not” – 33:3. Even guaranteeing ahead by giving a word that there will come definite response from Him –  “And it shall come to pass, before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear”– 565:24.Such is a tremendous encouragement to faith and prayer and to expectation.

IMPOSSIBILITIES: The Lord not only specializes in answering prayer but in performing in impossible circumstances of a human order. Many instances are made known in the Bible through different people in different generations who discovered that He listened and responded in magnificent style. He works and does things in His own way and time and proves that He has an ear to hear, a heart that cares and an arm that is not shortened. We are led to believe He can do the same today.

1/. HE ANSWERS BY RESCUING OUT OF DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES – GENESIS 18 &19

Abraham was duly concerned about the welfare of
Lot and his family in
Sodom. This had ever been a factor in his life and now the impending divine judgment upon the wicked place made him more concerned then ever and so he pleaded and bargained with the Lord He certainly had the ear and attention of the Lord and ultimately saw his petition answered in a remarkable way. The angels did not find it an easy matter but succeeded in their mission.

2/. HE ANSWERS BY DELIVERING FROM A DESPOTIC RULE    EXODUS 3:9

The Lord stated to Moses that He had heard the ‘cry of His people’ and it was time to do something. The Israelites were under tyrant domination and were serving under great servitude. It had gone on for a very long time so that the mental and spiritual state of His people had been utterly weakened. They just regarded themselves as serfs. But their praying had not gone unattended but was to be answered in an outstanding and unforgettable manner – see Exodus 3 – 14.

3/. HE ANSWERS BY CAUSING THE BARREN WOMB TO PRODUCE – 1 SAMUEL 1

A woman is in a terrible and awful dilemma and distress because she is unable to have any children. The statement has it: “the Lord had shut up her womb” –v5. There was no way that she could produce unless the Lord heard her prayer and answered.  She knew this was the route and so was relentless in her seeking Him to turn this captivity and she was not to be disappointed. She not only got a baby called Samuel, she got more beside – 1 Samuel 2:20,21. See the difference in 4: 19-22,

4/. HE ANSWERS BY SAVING FROM AN EMBARRASSED STATE  – 1 SAMUEL 30

David is reduced to a condition of utter embarrassment when he returns to Ziklag. Not only so, he appears to be out of favour with the people who had been loyal to him. Only the grace and protection of the Lord preserved him from fatal consequences. He needed an answer from the Lord and so he prayed and subsequent events proved that he had the ear and arm of the Lord. He was saved and spared from his embarrassment as a result of the Lord’s presence and providence.

5/. HE ANSWERS BY CONFIRMING THE FACT HE IS THE LORD  – 1 KINGS 18

The prophet had been very jealous for the honour of the Lord and was desirous it should be established once and for all as to who was and is God. The opportunity came so that he could present a challenge as to who could send fire upon a prepared sacrifice. Having set the thing up he made his prayer that reveals the whole purpose of this arrangement – vv30-37. The Lord not only sent fire but rain also!

6/. HE ANSWERS BY RELEASING HIS SERVANT FROM EXECUTION  ACTS 12

It looked certain from the human standpoint that Peter would be Herod’s next victim. But he reckoned without God and the prayers of God’s people – v5. They prayed with great entreaty and intensity and the night prior to his planned execution there is remarkable deliverance. It is Herod who is the next victim!

7/. HE ANSWERS BY BRINGING INSTANTANEOUS HEALING    MARK 10

A blind man in such desperate need calls out to the Lord as He passes by and discovered that He hears His call above the crowd and is ready to move to perform a miracle on his behalf – v49.   It looked as he would be condemned to a life of blindness but in an extraordinary fashion he is given his sight. His first sight was of Christ and he never wanted to let Jesus out of his sights because it says – “and he followed Jesus in the way.”

It is good to recognize that is ours to pray and for Him to answer in the way He chooses best. Prayer is intended to be a simple matter of calling and placing matters in His hands and allowing Him to deal with them in His time and in His own way. The answers He gives reveal His grace
