SPIRITUAL ECONOMICS

So far as the bank is concerned, you only get out what you put in. And so far as living is concerned, the same law holds good.

 

1/. YOU ONLY GET OUT OF LIFE AS MUCH AS YOU PUT IN.

 

The unhappiest people in the world are those who always act in their own interests. They won’t engage in public services. They won’t help a choir or Sunday School. If voluntary work depended on them, there would be none. What can they expect to get out of life, who never put anything in?

 

“I want to be thoroughly used up when I die,” said George Bernard Shaw. The happiest people in life are the people who are too busy to pity them-selves, too busy to think only of themselves.

 

Life pays its debts. The more you put in the more you get out.

 

2/. YOU ONLY GET OUT OF WORK AS MUCH AS YOU PUT RN.

 

No one will ever get a real, satisfying job, a job which grows with him, un­less he has the qualifications and experience which discipline and study give.

 

How sad it is to see youngsters strain to get away from school. This world is not a charitable institution waiting to hand out money for nothing. To get back you have to give, in real, hard work.

 

3/. YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE CHURCH WHAT YOU PUT IN.

 

Is your idea of church membership an hour on Sunday?

 

Have you realised that the congregation has as much to do with the service as the preacher; with the prayers as the pray-er?

 

Too often we are not church members but (as they said in war-time) “registered customers”.

 

We are the church. The church is what we make it and put into it.

 

Spiritual economics are just as valid as those economics that refer to the bank.

RUNNING AWAY

I had really had it. The children were loud, cranky, impossible. I was tired and fed up. My wife was tired and fed up. I decided that I was going to run away from it all and have a day just for me. I wanted to spoil myself. I wanted to have a day in which I did just what I wanted to do. I was going to live it up and be as greedy as I pleased. I wasn’t going to tend to anyone except myself.

 

I zoomed out of the house with fifty dollars. There.? I did it!

 

I said to myself as I drove to the highway and headed north.

 

Well, I drove to a mall and lead a wild time in a bookstore and bought the collected poems of Walt Whitman. After that I drove and drove to a McDonald’s and ordered two hamburgers, my own large fries, and my own large soda. I ate everything without being interrupted, without giving my pickle to anyone, without wiping someone’s mouth, nose, lap. Then I bought the biggest chocolate ice cream I could find.

 

I was free. I was out of town, so I drove to a movie theatre and watched a movie without buying popcorn, without someone sitting op my lap, without escorting someone to the bathroom. l was a free man. I was living it up. And I was miserable.

 

By the time I had returned home, everyone was asleep. As l slipped into bed, my wife whispered, “We missed you.”

 

“Me, too,” I answered. I never ran away from home again.

DRESS CODE:
 
It is advised that you come to work dressed according to your Salary.
If we see you wearing $350 Prada sneakers &carrying a $600 Gucci Bag, we assume you are doing well financially and therefore you do not need a raise. If you dress poorly, you need to learn to manage your money better, so that you may buy nicer clothes and therefore you do not need a raise. If you dress in-between, you are right where you need to be and therefore you do not need a raise.SICK DAYS:
 
We will no longer accept a doctor statement as proof of sickness. If you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.
 
SURGERY:
 
Operations are now banned. As long as you are an employee here, you need all your organs. You should not consider removing anything. We hired you intact. To have something removed constitutes a breach of employment.
 
PERSONAL DAYS:
 
Each employee will receive 104 personal days a year. They are called Saturday & Sunday.
 
VACATION DAYS:
 
All employees will take their vacation at the same time every year. The vacation days are as follows: January 1, July 4 & December 25.
 
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE:
 
This is no excuse for missing work. There is nothing you can do for dead friends, relatives or coworkers. Every effort should be made to have non-employees attend to the arrangements. In rare cases where employee involvement is necessary, the funeral should be scheduled in the late afternoon. We will be glad to allow you to work through your lunch hour and subsequently leave exactly one hour early, provided your work is done.

 

ABSENCE DUE TO YOUR OWN DEATH:
 This will be accepted as an excuse. However, we require at least two weeks notice as it is your duty to train your own replacement.

 

RESTROOM USE:LUNCH BREAK:

Skinny people get 30 minutes for lunch as they need to eat more so that they can look healthy. Normal size people get 15 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to maintain their average figure. Fat people get 5 minutes for lunch, because that’s all the time needed to drink a Slim Fast and take a diet pill.

 Entirely too much time is being spent in the restroom. In the future, we will follow the practice of going in alphabetical order. For instance, all employees whose names begin with ‘A’ will go from 8:00 to 8:20; employees whose names begin with ‘B’ will go from 8:20 to 8:40 and so on. If you’re unable to go at your allotted time, it will be necessary to wait until the next day when your turn comes again.

In extreme emergencies, employees may swap their time with a coworker. Both employee’s supervisors must approve this exchange in writing. In addition, there is now a strict 3-minute time limit in the stalls. At the end of three minutes, an alarm will sound, the toilet paper roll will retract, the stall door will open and a picture will be taken.

After your second offense, your picture will be posted on the company bulletin board under the “Chronic Offenders” category.

Encountering Christ

 

It is always a delightful and joyous occasion when someone comes and finds Christ. Also, it is with feelings of immense pleasure and satisfaction when one has been an instrument in the Lord’s hand to bring this about. To be a witness for Christ is a Christian responsibility and to behold it bearing fruit is a thrilling factor.

 

In my pastoral ministry at Chesterfield it was a pleasure to visit the flock, especially those who had recently joined the fellowship. Pauline Hollingsworth had become linked with us and so when the opportunity arose I took it and went to their home and had the joy of meeting Brian, her husband and two children, Amanda and Paul.  I was cordially welcomed and Brian treated me kindly and we were able to freely chat. He had been impressed by the fact that his wife’s physical condition had vastly improved since attending Zion church. Apparently she was experiencing disturbing noises in her head and at times the attacks were so bad, she beat her head against the wall to find some kind of relief and solace. The Lord had ministered to her and now she was free. It made Brian open to me in a gracious way.

 

Without pressure one sought to see this man won for Christ. He would make an excellent Christian and he had the capability of communicating well. The moment came when it was opportune to invite him to a very special gathering. A major city crusade was being held in Sheffield in                and the evangelist was none other than Billy Graham. The churches in Chesterfield had put on transport to convey people who wanted to go and so the invite went out to Brian and he accepted. He had been to a number of meetings in the church but had made no public response to Christ.

 

It was a special thrill for me to see him board the coach but in his own words, “There were only the side seats on which to sit and he was a little worried lest I should sit alongside of him.” He didn’t want me too close at such a time but I reckon I was wise enough to allow the Lord to do His own work. Our prayers naturally were that this would be the evening when he would have a personal encounter with Christ. The occasion could not have been better suited for this experience to be his.

 

Billy Graham, as usual, presented the Good News of Christ in his own God-given manner, and then made the appeal for people to turn to Christ in the Sheffield United football stadium. A vast number of people responded and made their way down to the platform to take Christ as their Lord and Saviour and to be counselled and given appropriate literature to help them in their first steps with Christ. It gives Christendom enormous excitement to witness this kind of scene! The angels rejoice over the repentance of one sinner, so they must go into raptures when many people come to Christ at the same time!

 

It was only when we arrived back to travel on the bus that we were informed that Brian had made his way forward to receive Christ. Needless to say, we were overjoyed with the information and greeted him into the family of God.

 

Brian has grown throughout the years from strength to strength and stands tall as a Christian. He was hungry for Christ from the start and loved to hear the Word of God preached. What an avid listener he was and he loved to talk and ask questions about the Christian faith! We commenced an early Saturday morning Bible School for extra teaching and with a desire to see those who wanted to be involved in Christian service. He  joined and went on privately to do the International Correspondence Courses and attained good qualifications as a result.

 

One of the outcomes of him coming to Christ was that his home was now under Christ’s influence and management. What a pleasure to say that his son, Paul, came through with a vital commitment and later with a will to serve Christ in a full time capacity. He had a burden for the youth and became involved in the leadership at the local church level with this grouping. His ministry opened out into the schools and he was used to impact many young lives for Christ. After a number of years, he now works in a pastoral capacity with the senior leader and has done an outstanding work for Christ within the context of the fellowship in Chesterfield.

 

As for Brian, he was able to obtain a redundancy pay off with the Sheffield Star newspaper and now acts in the role of caretaker of the church premises, doing a good and needful task. He has travelled far since my first encounter with him and he is regarded as a choice Christian friend. When we meet together, it is to do one another good.

LEAP OF FAITH!

WEST END DANCER FOES FROM PERFORMING TO PULPIT

 

Former West End dancer Darren Middleton has gone from performing to preaching – after taking a leap of faith and switching career.

 

The Rev. Middleton – who has appeared in big shows such as Cats and the Lion King – said he would inject some of his energy into services at Christchurch Methodist Church in Fairwater, Cardiff.

 

The 35-year-old said he hoped to use his talents to spread the Word in a different way.

 

Rev Middleton added: “We want to give the church a fresh expression. I want to bring people into an atmosphere where they can encounter God.”

 

INCREDIBLE

 

He explained that despite being a Christian since he was young, it was not until eight years ago that he felt God’s presence during a trip along the M62 motorway.

 

“Things were not going too well for me and I was welling up and had to pull over. But I felt God in an incredible way – He asked me to follow Him. It was my Road to Damascus moment.”

The Land of Promise – the book of Joshua provided by Rev. E. Anderson

The book of Joshua is a good bible book for Christians to study for it gives illustration of, we, too, like Israel should learn to possess their inheritance that God has promised in Christ. There are lessons to learn for all. May you discovered much from the following notes.

 

INTO THE LAND OF PROMISE – THE BOOK OF JOSHUA

 

OPENING UP THE WAY

 

JOSHUA 3 & 4

 

EXODUS: The Lord had already shown in a significant manner His supreme ability to open up a way out of Egypt by the blood of the lamb and by the parting of the Red Sea. Their unique deliverance from Pharaoh and his hosts were dealt a staggering blow by the Lord. The Lord had made a way when they had come to a cul-de-sac. In an impossible circumstance an exit was supernaturally provided.

 

ENTRANCE: Now they were in a new situation where it was required that the Lord show His ability again by opening up a way through Jordan’s waters.  This was necessary if they were to make a great start in the matter of possession. They way had to be opened up and it was not at a convenient time naturally as the context reveals.

 

INITIATION: What was demanded was a miracle. If things were to really get going and if it was to be that the Lord was with them, then the situation needed an act of divine intervention. As they were to move out in the schedule of the Lord He was to manifest His authority and ability and make it obvious to the people that the time was right for entrance. This was to be an initiation to a further break out of the miraculous.

 

1/. BECAUSE THE LORD HAD GIVEN SUPERNATURAL REVELATION – 3:6,8,9,11-13

 

This was not something that Joshua had ingenuously contrived or thought up in his reasoning. It was far removed from human logic and ability. God’s servant received an insight from heaven on how to proceed in the next maneuver.  He was in that favourable and fortunate place where he was hearing clear and true the directions from above and was happy to be directed – 3:8. It was to be completely different to what had happened at the Red Sea. He affirms that the Ark of the Covenant is to lead and open up the road through – Joshua 3:10 Jos 3:10

 

 Hereby; by what he would do in dividing the waters of Jordan. JosHUA 3:16

 

“However dark the path before us, God can make it plain; and however great the difficulties in the way of duty, he can remove them, and cause us in obeying him to triumph.”  Family Bible

 

2/. BECAUSE THERE WAS A READINESS TO BELIEVE AND OBEY – 1:3; 3:15,17; 4:18

 

There appears to be no murmuring or questioning abroad only the desire and will to trust and respond to what is revealed. The priests and people are in one accord and are ready to do something different. Joshua did say to them – “you have not been this way before.” It was not for them to query the tactics or the procedure but to warmly respond to orders. This is where the miraculous comes into play and operation. The bottom line for this divine people was to act with commitment to what the Lord was revealing.

 

3/. BECAUSE THERE WAS A WORK OF SANCTIFICATION DONE  – 3:5

 

God’s servant sensed that this people needed to show to God a genuine disposition of mind and heart and so the call to consecrate and give themselves afresh to the Lord. This was a good and great moment to dedicate themselves to Him. All factors that were not in line with Him must be attended to and a willingness to separate all that they were and possessed to Him. Did they but know it, they were creating the grounds and atmosphere in which God loved to work and show His mighty hand. Separation to the Lord in sacred dedication does yield its fruit. Here it is linked with the miraculous.

 

4/. BECAUSE THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD WAS EXPRESSED AT AN EXTREME TIME  – 4:18

 

It is stated that Jordan was in the time of flood so it can implied that this miracle took place when the river was at its most threatening time. To have viewed the scene one would have had to say it would really need a miracle of vast proportions to create a highway through. The conditions could not have been worse. But the Lord specializes in doing things of a miraculous order when these kind of conditions prevail. He was to prove to Israel that no matter how difficult all may appear, such presented no problem to Him. This was to set their minds right and tone their spirits for what was yet to come.

 

5/. BECAUSE THE LORD PURPOSED TO COMMENCE A PROGRAM OF MIRACLES  – 3:5

 

Tomorrow was initiation day for even far greater happenings and events. The crossing of Jordan was to be but starters and lift their faith level to something bigger. They were to anticipate the Lord doing much more as they came against the enemies, the giants and walled cities. Jordan was but the introduction again of the presence and power of God and it would become intensified and increased. The testimony that the Lord was about to establish was not simply to open up Jordan but to open them up in such a manner and measure that faith would know no bounds or limitations. They were to become excited at the prospect of things occurring they had never witnessed before.

 

6/. BECAUSE THE LORD DESIRED TO ESTABLISH JOSHUA’S LEADERSHIP AND AUTHORITY  –  3:7

This was a vital and valid opportunity to make manifest to His people that He had appointed and anointed Joshua to act on His behalf.  The people were sure before but became absolutely certain following the crossing of Jordan that Joshua was the person in the right place. When they saw things working out as he had stated they could not get away from the fact that he was the one whom the Lord respected and responded to. The miracle was a confirmation from on high that Joshua would be the one who would be given the directions from the Lord and it would be essential that his leadership be unequivocally accepted. If this was adhered to the success and progress would be theirs and there would be much more of the miraculous present. 

 

7/. BECAUSE IT WAS ESSENTIAL THAT  PEOPLE COME TO REVERENCE THE LORD  –  4:24

 

Whilst miracles are essential and are most wonderful occurrences, the real issue is that they are a testimony to the Lord and should produce a divine sense of awe and wonder. The world ought to know what a wonderful God he is because of the wonders He performs but His servants and people should be lost in reverence and stand in awe of Him. The great miracle of life is the Lord. What a wonder He is! What wonders He performs!

 

CONCLUSION

 

The concluding fact is: the Lord is always interested in opening up the way so that His people may enter their possession and become possessors.

 

Having witness initially what the lOrd is prepared and able to do, the scene should be set for the manifestation

THE DOCTOR’S DREAM

 

There was trouble in the church : the elders were murmuring against one of the most influential members. Maybe, he was one of the leading citizens of the community; maybe he was a well-known doctor; but the fact remained that he was not conforming to the requirements of his church. He was guilty of compromise; he was too worldly; he frequented places out of bounds for members of his fellowship. They grudgingly admitted that he constantly witnessed to the saving power of Christ; they agreed that his life and deeds were morally and spiritually above reproach : but why did he persist in going to such places when his church disapproved? His example was bad, and unless he was censured there was a grave possibility that younger brethren in the assembly might be led into error.

 

They were reluctant to challenge the brilliant doctor, but the Lord’s honour seemed to be at stake. They were the custodians of the Table and the assembly. They would be failing in their duty if they condoned loose practices. They would have been offended had someone accused them of being an ecclesiastical tribunal about to sit m Judgment upon a brother Christian.

 

They were very grave when the fielding doctor appeared in their midst. The spokesman explained that he was only expressing the feelings of the assembly. but his fierce denunciations revealed a bitterness foreign to real Christianity He maintained that the doctor was not upholding the high ideals of separation. In common with his brethren he should be a man apart-avoiding every appearance of evil. It was a cause for great regret, but unless the offending brother changed his ways, the assembly would need to take disciplinary action against him. The brethren would be grateful to receive an assurance that the fences would not recur; that thy honour of the church would be safeguarded. When he finished his speech, his colleagues halted expectantly.

 

The gracious physician calmly rose and acknowledged the interest which had been displayed in his affairs. Then he confessed that he had had a dream, and if those present would be patient, he would like to tell them about it.

 

“Brethren, I dreamed of a small meeting place where the members had been called to discuss the cost of employing a caretaker. When the secretary announced how much money would be required for this purpose, the members frowned, instantly recognising that this was beyond the reach of the church finances. Then an old man rose to say he knew a way to solve the problem. If each member of the assembly swept around his own seat and assumed responsibility for the cleanliness of his part of the building, there would be no need to employ anybody. He added, ‘But let us be careful not to find fault in another’s portion of the floor when, our own part is unclean. Let us be concerned only with our own task, for in this way the unity of the church will be maintained, and our building will be clean and wholesome !’

 

Brethren,” continued the doctor, “the place I saw in my dream seemed strangely like this church. You are all anxious to inform me what 1 ought to do. You are keen that 1 should spring-clean my part of the assembly. Have you examined your own portion lately? I have a shrewd idea that many places in this building seem to be harbouring cobweb’s .”

 

When the doctor left the room a voice seemed to be whispering. “Let him that is without sin east cast a stone,” and although some of the arrogant jury condemned the departing brother the fact remained that his dream had been intensely challenging to them all. They had failed to realize that every command of Scripture should be interpreted in a spirit of grace. Without the oil of love, even the most commendable dictate of the church sounds like grinding ecclesiastical machinery.

 

He who lives near to God only criticizes self ; he has no time to examine.

OPERATION MOBILISATION

 

SWISS SERVICE

 

Visiting people as at the centre of what the OM Global Action Zurich team does. Those they meet are of varying origins, languages and religions, reflecting the city’s diversity. Mirjam (Switzerland) frequently visits immigrant families, but she goes to the lonely and marginalised, or people with psychological problems. The reason for the visit? Bringing food, puzzles, private lessons or practical help.

 

Often it is difficult to arranged an appointment, and it isn’t unusual, despite every effort, to wind up standing in front of a closed front door. If the meeting does actually take place, however, the people are very grateful, and look forward to the next visit. Even if the visit was only short, it can still make a difference in the lives of the people.

 

“I visit a female drug addict two years ago while she was in hospital,” reports Rosie (UK). “I didn’t spend a lot of time with her, and once the visit was over, it left my mind. A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by this woman on the streets; I didn’t recognise her at first. But the hospital visit remained so fresh in her memory, that she asked me not only to pray for her then and there on the street, but to stay in email contact, so that she could send me further prayer requests.”

 

BELGIAN BLESSINGS

 

What else could follow Hope Brussels 2007 than Hope Brussels 2008! Some of those involved in last year’s outreach clearly left wanting to experience more of God at work – and joined this summer’s event. Among those back for a second time was Jedidja Meijvogel, a native Belgian keen to see her fellow countrymen come to Christ.

 

The pastor of one tiny Flemish church was greatly encouraged to have a group of international volunteers helping the fellowship’s evangelism. The team stuffed a few thousand letter boxes with French and Flemish Christian literature, worked in in the church’s coffee bar and held open-air Gospel presentations in the park.

 

Self-employed musician Nate who led team worship each morning, admits he was saved about five years ago out of a life of drugs, depression and darkness. He joined Hope Brussels to stretch himself and his faith – and it did. “My personal highlight was when two little boys in the park came and asked me how to become a Christian,” he recalls.

 

Plenty of Belgian waffles, French fries and chocolate accompanied the team’s ministry too. Sound tempting? Planning for Hope Brussels 2009, July 3 to 17, is already underway!

 

SOFA SO GOOD

 

OM Ireland’s new training centre is up and running! Over 40 participants arrived for the first ever mission-equipping session at the newly renovated Lacken House base. After four days of prayer and orientation, the group headed out to serve communities in the heart of the Emerald Isle.

 

With permission from the local shopping centre, team members in Carlow placed to couches outside a supermarket. The scene soon attracted crowds of local youngsters, eager for the chance to sit and talk. “Every day teens would flock to us – knowing we would talk about Jesus – and spend hours with us,” share one tem member.

 

“I spent four hours straight talking to teens (about 10 of them), getting to know about their lives and bringing God into the mix. AMAZING!”

SITUATIONAL LEADERS:

READ THE NEED, THEN LEAD

 

John Maxwell from His Leadership Bible

 

Reading         Proverbs 25:21, 22

 

Leaders need to respond to individuals based on their needs rather than their faults. Proverbs 25:21, 22 encourages us to see what others need, even our enemies and respond accordingly

 

Good leaders do this well. They don’t lead out of a predetermined package of behaviors, but size up every situation and discern what must happen to reach the desired goal. Like a quarter-back who reads the defense, then calls an audible from the line of scrimmage, good leaders re­main flexible and may change their response, based not on what a person deserves, but on what they need to succeed. Good leaders follow this path in difficult situations:

 

1. They need: They aren’t afraid to admit they need to listen and get understanding.

 

2. They read: They evaluate what has happened and what steps are best to take.

 

3. They feed: They communicate what they’ve observed to key players.

 

4. They heed: They act on the basis of their discovery, even if it means change.

 

5. They load: They provide direction to those involved.

Servants Finish Their Tasks

“Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!”  – Matthew 25:23 (NLT)

Real servants are faithful to their ministry. Servants finish their tasks, fulfill their responsibilities, keep their promises, and complete their commitments. They don’t leave a job half undone, and they don’t quit when they get discouraged. They are trustworthy and dependable.

Faithfulness has always been a rare quality – Psalm 12:1; Proverbs 20:6; Philippians 2:19–22.

Most people don’t know the meaning of commitment. They make commitments casually, then break them for the slightest reason without any hesitation, remorse, or regret. Every week, churches and other organizations must improvise because volunteers didn’t prepare, didn’t show up, or didn’t even call to say they weren’t coming.

Can you be counted on by others? Are there promises you need to keep, vows you need to fulfil, or commitments you need to honour?

This is a test. God is testing your faithfulness. If you pass the test, you’re in good company: Abraham, Moses, Samuel, David, Daniel, Timothy, and Paul were all called faithful servants of God.

Even better, God has promised to reward your faithfulness in eternity. Imagine what it will feel like one day to have God say to you, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!” – Matthew 25:23 NLT.

By the way, faithful servants never retire. They serve faithfully as long as they’re alive. You can retire from your career, but you will never retire from serving God.
