meet the christian ministers

Rev. David and Sylvia Galvin

When, several years ago, David and Sylvia Galvin (pictured below) became Christians at BallyfermotElimChurch they never could have imagined at that time that David would one day become the senior minister of the church.

But that is exactly what happened. David worked closely with the previous minister, John Waller, as an Elder and then, when John and Trish Waller moved to Barking in London,

David became the pastor of the church having earlier applied to become an Elim minister.

The church has continued to grow during the years under his leadership.

CHRIST LIKENESS

Senior Living Ministries

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” – Ephesians 5:1-2

If you’ve ever had the chance to visit the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, you might’ve noticed a portrait on a wall near the main entrance with the following inscription:

“James Butler Bonham—no picture of him exists. This portrait is of his nephew, Major James Bonham, deceased, who greatly resembled his uncle. It is placed here by the family that people may know the appearance of the man who died for freedom.”
In much the same way that we have no picture of James Butler Bonham, we don’t have a picture of Jesus Christ either. In fact, the earliest depiction of Jesus dates to about 200 years after his death, and doesn’t even show him with a beard!

But while no actual portrait of Jesus exists physically, His likeness can be seen in the lives of His true followers as they live their lives to emulate Him. And it’s by that depiction of Jesus that the world will know Him—the man who died for their freedom.

Showing Jesus to others isn’t about living a perfect life. It’s about letting God’s love flow through you and into others’ lives. So imitate Jesus with your life, and the watching world will know of the love that’s available to them!

PRAYER CHALLENGE

Pray that God would show you how to demonstrate the love of Jesus to others today.

THE LAW OF EMPOWERMENT: WHAT DO POTENTIAL LEADERS NEED?

Taken from the John Maxwell leadership Bible

Numbers’11:16-30

Often pastors in traditional churches ask, “Is it really my job to equip people to serve and lead? Am I not merely to be a shepherd and teach the people on Sunday?” This question demonstrates how our culture has blinded us to the biblical call for leaders to equip other leaders. Numbers 11 demonstrates that equipping laypeople to lead and serve is God’s idea, not man’s. Leaders are to identify, prepare, and release teams to work.

God left no doubt about how Moses was to train the seventy leaders he had selected. In Numbers 11:16-30 we see the answer to the question: What do potential leaders need? God says:

1/.  They need authority (v. 16, “bring them… that they may stand there with you”).

2/.  They need anointing (v. 17, “I will take of the Spirit… and will put the same upon them”).

3/.  They need ownership of the vision (v. 17, “the Spirit that is upon you … upon them”).

4/.  They need responsibility (v. 17, “they shall bear the burden of the people with you”). ‘

5/.  They need specific ministry roles (v. 24, “placed them around the tabernacle”).

6/.  They need to express their gifts (v. 25, “when the Spirit rested upon them… they prophesied”).

7/.  They need a secure shepherd who will release them to succeed (w. 26-30, Moses).
