The truth is wonderfully expressed in the hymn written by Philip Doddridge “Grace! ‘tis a charming sound, Harmonious to the ear.” It voices the matchless unmerited favour upon a world of lost sinners such as you and I. Instead of punishing duly because of our wicked nature and behaviour, He made it possible through Christ’s death and resurrection to cleanse pardon, free and give us a personal standing and eternal relationship with Him. Instead of being banished, you are blessed in an indescribable way and being prepared to spend your future in heaven. John Newton had lived an appalling life of sin and wickedness, committing untold evils. God had mercy on him, saved him and he penned the words of the hymn which is a great Christian favourite – ‘Amazing Grace.’
